Competitions, Featured

Our popular Photo of the Month contest is now open for March. After the submission deadline passes we’ll be putting up a shortlist of our favourite India photos – with links to their owners – and asking you to pick a winner.

And while the contest is mainly for fun and inspiration, there is a prize for the chosen winner!

This month our theme is Seasons of India

March is all about the colours of spring, especially with India’s famous Holi festival. Barsana is our destination of the month for it’s special Holi celebrations. As the seasons change there are lots of opportunities for photographers and we are looking for photos this month that sum up a particular season.

The sort of images we are looking for include:

  • Hill stations in the summer
  • Winter scenery
  • Beauty of the monsoon season
  • Indian festivals associated with a particular time of year

In fact anything that shows the beauty of a particular season! Make sure you let us know which one by captioning your photo!

You can enter in four ways

Supply your image and a brief description of where the photo was taken in one of the following ways:

On Facebook: Just post your image to the wall as usual

On Flickr: Add your image to the Photo of the Month group

On Twitter: Tweet the image and include our Twitter name @indianhomestays

On the Blog: Leave us a comment below with a link to the image that you would like to enter.

You can enter more than once – you may submit up to 5 images if you wish. You may also re-enter an image you have submitted for a previous competition if you feel that it fits the theme, as long as it has not been previously short listed.

The deadline for entries is 20 March 2011. Good luck everyone – and thanks for taking part.

All copyright remains with the photographer. By entering the competition, you grant Mahindra Homestays the non-exclusive right to display your entered image on our blog in conjunction with the competition only with full credit and a link back to your own site. Entering your picture into this competition indicates that you have accepted these conditions.

    Here are 5 of mine.

We were heading off to Srinagar. Some of the guys desperately needed to take a leak, so we stopped the vehicle for a while here, somewhere just on the outskirts of Srinagar. We all faced the field. The view was amazing. Unarmed with my tripod, I got this shot of the sun, ready to set.

The clouds met Earth. Some clouds were even below us. Clicked at Gulmarg, Srinagar.

At home, my backyard, in Goa. After a heavy downpour.

A little bubble formed by a raindrop reflects what I call home, Goa.

    The Zoji La

Zoji La, one the most stunning sights I’ve ever seen in my entire life (no kidding). Though this may not be the most stunning picture clicked :) . Our driver refused to stop for us to click a better photograph. He gave us the option of either getting stuck in the snow or skidding off the edge and dying. ;)
The Zoji La is located on National Highway 1D between Leh and Srinagar. Though often referred to as Zojila Pass in the foreign press, the correct English translation is Zoji Pass or simply Zojila, since the suffix ‘La’ itself means pass in several Himalayan languages.
