Sharing your trip with extraordinary people and listening to their unique stories and backgrounds makes it even more special.
Major Durga Das was a commander the Indian Army’s elite Armoured Corps, he retired on a whim and is now the host of the beautiful Devra homestay in Rajasthan. The family belongs to the same lineage as the royal house of Udaipur and his ancestors are premier nobles from house of Bassi.
He built this homestays practically single handedly on a rocky hill, using only rock quarried from the hill. With his his wife Jyoti, he designed the house with its high ceilings and large windows which make it refreshingly light and airy.
A keen environmentalist and bird watcher, Durga is a delightful company. He would be happy to accompany you for morning walks to show the estate.
In fact the whole spirited family is a delight to spend time with. In the local language Devra means a tribal temple and the family’s temple by the house is worshipped in by the local villagers.
Guests can enjoy the company of the villagers when they visit the family’s temple to worship or can take a village walk with Durga and his family who speak all speak the local language and attend the weddings and festivals of the villagers.
Meet Major Durga Das yourself and stay at Devra
