July Photo of the Month Competition Winner

We had five images short-listed for the July Photo of the Month competition and for the last week you have been voting for your favourite. This month we were looking for an image inspired by the colour green.

Congratulations to Roshan Rajendran who has been voted as the winner. His image of a waterfall in Thekkady, Kerala surrounded by lush green foliage was voted for by 143 people.

May photo contest winner and some amazing hill station photography

We had four images short-listed for the May Photo of the Month competition and for the last week you have been voting for your favourite.

The theme this month was hill stations of India and we had some excellent entries. The winner was Jibran Bashir with his stunning image of Dal Lake in Srinagar.

Jibran has a great collection of hill station photos and actually submitted several for the competition. Here are a few more of his photos. Check out his Flickr page to see more.

Kashmir Tulip garden is the sprawling Asia’s biggest tulip garden in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar. It holds thousands of flowers impart a mesmerising ambience to this 90-acre tourist attraction in the Valley.

We received some beautiful photos for our January photo of the month competition based on the theme the colour and designs of India.

With 77% of the vote there was a clear winner this month, well done to Ravinder Nain with his photo showing an intricate headdress design.

This month we have been looking for the best India travel photo that captures the colours and designs of India.

India is a visual feast of colour and vibrant design. From intricate beading on saris to ornate details on temples there are examples of beautiful art throughout the country.

With so many entries it is always hard to pick a short-list but we have selected five images for you to choose the winner from. Voting finishes Sunday 30th January.

Photo of the month competition: January 2011

Our popular Photo of the Month contest is now open for January. After the submission deadline passes we’ll be putting up a shortlist of our favourite India photos – with links to their owners – and asking you to pick a winner.

And while the contest is mainly for fun and inspiration, there is a prize for the chosen winner!

This month our theme is the designs and colours of India

Our destination of the month is Tamil Nadu where the Pongal festival is celebrated in January. During Pongal intricate sand paintings called a kolam are thought to bestow prosperity to homes and consist of a geometrical line drawing composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. Another traditional decorative folk art of India is a Rangoli. They are decorative designs on floors during Hindu festivals.

You will find plenty of examples of beautiful design throughout India – from bead work on saris to intricate henna tattoos there are examples of beautiful art throughout the country. The sort of images we are looking for include:

Henna tattoos
Bead work and colourful saris
Kolams and Rangolis
Carvings and close up details on temples

In fact anything that shows off the design and colours of India!

You can enter in four ways

Supply your image and a brief description of where the photo was taken in one of the following ways:

On Facebook: Just post your image to the wall as usual

On Flickr: Add your image to the Photo of the Month group

On Twitter: Tweet the image and include our Twitter name @indianhomestays

On the Blog: Leave us a comment below with a link to the image that you would like to enter.

You can enter more than once – you may submit up to 5 images if you wish. You may also re-enter an image you have submitted for a previous competition if you feel that it fits the theme, as long as it has not been previously short listed.

We received some stunning entries for our December photo of the month competition based on the theme, beaches of India.

With 74% of the votes this month there was a clear favourite. Congratulations to Lovell D’souza who wins with the beautiful picture of a sunset at Gokarna.

This month we have been looking for the photo of the month with the theme of beaches.

India is known for having some of the best beaches in the world and we received a lot of entries this month of some very beautiful beaches. Thank you to everyone who took part, the quality of the entries made it really tough to select the finalists.

Our destination of the month is Goa which is a popular destination for festive celebrations at this time of year, but of course Goa is perhaps best known for it’s beautiful beaches which attract thousands of visitors every year. Your photos don’t have to be taken in Goa of course – with over 7,000km of coastline there are plenty of beach locations to choose from.
