WHAT IS IT?
Baisakhi is one of the most important festivals in Punjab. It is celebrated with great fervour amongst sikhs, especially in Punjab. It is not only a religious festival but also celebrates the harvest and the start of the Hindu New Year.

RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE
In 1689, Guru Gobind Singh formed the Sikhs into the ‘Khalsas’, eliminating the belief in high and low classes. This day is now celebrated as Baisakhi.

CELEBRATIONS
The bhangra dance is performed by men in vibrant attire. The music is supplied by drum beats. Through the music and dance the story of a farmer’s life from sowing the seed to harvest is told. Many families visit the beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar on this day to offer prayers and gratitude.
